Jeffrey Sass Talks Dot Club and the results of our Dot App Poll

According to the news from Domain Forum of China on March 1st,in an article by Laurie Sullivan on Media Post which discussed Google paying $25 million for .app, there was also some commentary from Jeffrey Sass about .club. Sass explained how the pricing works at the wholesale and retail level. He gave a little shout out to, the $10.99 hand registration that Bruce Marler was able to jump on. Sass mentioned as an example that new gtlds have proven their ability to rank in the serps.

Sass said early indications suggest many of the new domain names that mean something perform well in search results. “It happened with,” he said.

Sass also mentioned that Justin Kan who sold Twitch to Amazon, will be using as a new community based streaming music site. Tech Crunch wrote about back in January.

From the article:

Jeff Sass, CMO at .club, a top-level domain name registry for the name, knows how it goes. The names are sold through registrars, such as GoDaddy, for between $10.00 and $15.00 annually. But .club pays to own the rights to license domain names to others. “We set the wholesale price and sell through the registrar,” he said. “They mark it up and sell it to consumers or brands. ICANN gets about $0.25 per domain name sold.”
